Makeing Some Changes

I've removed some political content as we make the necessary changes to get back to where we started. Going forward we'll try to hold back our very jaded world views and get back to delivering new and juice technical content.

To answer a few of your emails, the future of the Chromedpork podcast is currently up in the air. The original cast is still very interested in producing new shows, however there is some debate about the format and our ability do deliver all original (quality) content on a regular basis.

Podcast Content is now in stream

If you wondered why 22 old ass items are marked as new in your rss reader... its because the Chromed Pork Radio podcast episodes have been consolidated to this feed.

Now you can point I-Tunes, Amarok, or whatever at us for podcasts and your news reader at us for updates and blog posts like this one.

Additional problem or is this one a feature? Who cares?

Backfilling Content

Just a heads up, I've started to back fill older Chromed Pork content into the blogs, This will be an ongoing process so don't forget to check out some of the older content.

Some of it will be being recovered, some of it was never even released. So it might be worth checking out.

Some reasons for choosing Google over other web blog options....

The original chromed pork website was flat html, css, and an rss feed. And while this is a very clean implementation it is also limited in scope and can be clunky to update regularly.

Because the hosting location is about to change anyway, I thought it might be a good idea to be a little more forward looking. The goal became to simplify and reduce administrative overhead and essentially to make site updates almost effortless.

I looked at a lot of blog packages available but became slightly concerned with security. In fact a Google search for “security” and a potential web blog package is pretty damn revealing.

Lately about 60+ hours of my week has been going to work and related activity's, holding to this kind of schedule doesn't leave me much time to be mucking around. Updating some secondary product when that time could be spent editing a show or writing a blog post seems counter intuitive. Not wanting to introduce vast attack surface to Chromed Pork controlled servers; I began to look at web blog options.

Google was chosen because I believe they have a reputation to protect, which means they won't let a known vulnerability go un-patched as long as say an over worked and apathetic blog maintainer like myself.

You can call it laziness but I don't see anything wrong with this assessment of my available resources. It may not have the do-it yourself spirit as most of the things I do but then again I just freed up some precious time without scrimping on quality like I was pre-change.

PS: Atum, I don't care how much you sing the heavenly praises of wordpress, I've simply seen way to many of them get owned. If you want a user account why not just ask? Why you always gotta try to SE me like that bra?

Some changes to the chromed pork website....

Due to some disagreements with our current hosting provider. We're in the process of moving to a new home.

This will be a perfect opportunity to make some changes that will simplify content management while opening up greater opportunity's for information sharing, transparency, and collaboration.

The changes currently underway:

  1. The chromed pork main page and content will be moved to another hosting provider.
  2. This blog has been created to provide updates on changes to the site, it is intended as collaborative blog for use by the chromed pork community.
  3. All scans, gallery's, papers and links will be removed from their place on the website and distributed via the blog. This well drastically reduce the work effort involved in content and site management while making this information easier to parse, aggregate, and otherwise manipulate and/or mine.
  4. The new Chromed Pork Radio podcast feed will be served up via Google's feedburner due to overwhelming demand to confirm or deny the presence of our 2 listeners. Both an OGG and MP3 feed will be maintained, all episodes will be released under an open content license such as creative commons. While we rip last seasons episodes to ogg and normalize all MP3 episodes to a standard low bit rate, I will be removing certain content that would be “incompatible” with this license.

Over the life of the group their has been a lot of tribal knowledge sharing over IRC, I'm hoping that a new easier to use model might encourage some information sharing.

How To Contribute: Chromed Pork Radio

{------------------------------------------------------------------}
Why Contribute?

With so many individual podcasts, its hard to give a good justification to go to chromed pork over another podcast. Most of us contribute to Chromed Pork for editorial freedom and the absence of "dead lines"

Chromed Pork is about sharing information and not taking yourself too seriously. We see this as "grass roots" media, we don't strive to emulate existing media. In fact some efforts are made to sabotage mainstream adoption. Such efforts include occasional hoax information, irregular releases, missing and broken links on the site. (All of which may or may not contain hidden meaning.)

Chromed Pork listeners are expected to think for themselves and make up their own damn minds about stuff. We do the "show" for lolz, if your interested you can too.
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
When should I contribute?

Anytime, we will always accept content. To be part of our main Chromed Pork recording session hang out in IRC and ask around for details.
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
What should I contribute?

Anything interesting to geeks that we can host without getting "Take Down" notices. That said it should be your content, that YOU submit understanding that we will make the content publicly available.

We accept white-papers, TXT files, pictures, radio content, ideas, hate mail, brown nosing, tools, and more hate mail.
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
How long should shows be?

20 minutes to 3 hours of actual content (IE: at least 20 minutes not including music)
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
Can I be anonymous?

We defiantly recommend a pseudo-name , you wouldn't want future employers playing guesswork at how deeply you were involved with this sort of shady hangout. Any 'anonymous' submissions without a name will be credited to Roland, Logan, Rita, or Lola.
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
How/Where do I submit?

Contact us using any means found in the contact section. We'll arrange something.
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
Do I need to use the opening music?

We prefer that you use the chromed pork opening music even if only the first 5 seconds, don't want to confuse people. It can be found here. Many thanks to G-R41n J4h for allowing to use his track!
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
Any restrictions on closing music?

Yes, don't make a headache legal/political issue for us. Meaning try to keep it to things that can be shared freely. We always need to attribute the music to the proper musician.

Musicians/RIAA/Other concerned party's please contact us via email for any issues.
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
Can I talk about how I h4x0rd th4 g1bs0n?

Sure, we assume most hacker stories are what we like to call pseudo-fiction. Meaning they are either made up, blown out of proportion, or worse.

We keep no personally identifying information, and just assume its another "Bob" story. But don't think your completely safe to tell the world how you hacked NASA with a toothpick, floss, and bubble gum.
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
What shouldn't I contribute?

Copy restricted material, material that doesn't belong to you. Proprietary or confidential information or anything an agreement restricts you from telling

Any sort of DOC droppage. IE: real names, address's, phone numbers, other peoples email account info, social security numbers, ect, ect.

IE: don't be an ass
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
You guys suck! Can I contribute something about that?

Sure but try to have some other interesting content as well. Not episode driven flame wars, if you want to fight with another contributor it should be 1 podcast with both of you present to defend yourselves.

All else fails you could meet up at a con to settle things.
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
Can I get me some free webspace D00D?

Kindly go find a place to die.
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
I'm a n00b can I make something too?

Yes, elitism is for the insecure and lame. Remember stupidity can usually be cured, ignorance and arrogance often cannot. Just try to stay relevant.
{------------------------------------------------------------------}
Can I cover a topic thats already been covered?

Sure but please try to do equal or better coverage of the topic. Your submission must add something to the content. (even if its just max lolz)
Chromedpork contact section updated.
What I have of contributed pictures is in the gallery. Contact me to contribute!

We've Moved

Welcome to our new home.

The old wiki format became an eyesore, as well as a bitch to maintain way sooner than I'd have hoped.
All of our +1 tollfree scans are still available, along with alot more content still to come in the near future.

More importantly, look out for the new Chromed Pork IRC Network within the next few days.
Chromed Pork Radio is still in the works, and our pilot episode is likely to air sometime in July.

In any case, enjoy the content.
